About PaperCitation
A free tool that checks whether the references in your paper point to real, published work, and whether the details are right.
Reference lists go wrong in ordinary ways. A year gets mistyped, an author is dropped, a title is half-remembered, a DOI points to the wrong paper. More and more, references also come from AI tools that confidently make up sources that don't exist. Professors notice.
PaperCitation looks up each reference in the same scholarly databases that libraries and publishers use, and shows you what it found. If something doesn't match, you see exactly what's different. If a paper has been retracted, you see a warning. If we can't find a source, we say so plainly, and we explain why that can happen with real sources too.
What it is, and what it isn't
- It checks whether references exist and match published records.
- It does not detect AI writing, and it doesn't judge your paper.
- It's a screening aid, not a guarantee. It can miss or mis-match sources, especially books, theses, non-English titles and reports.
Free, without a catch
There's no account, no trial and no paywall on exports. We don't sell data, and we don't store the references you paste. See the privacy policy for the details.
Who makes it
